A two year Louisiane-Bretagne exchange from October 2014 – October 2016 for 4 visual and 4 literary artists from the Bretagne region of France with 4 literary and 4 visual artists from Louisiana. Sponsor gallery Ann Connelly Fine Art in partnership with NUNU Arts and Culture Collective in Louisiana and Les Articulteurs in Redon, France as well as the New Orleans French Consulate and The Walls Project will complete the selection of artists. This exhibit is intended to grow and change as it introduces new artists and exhibition venues.
Once selected, the visual artists will create art using 4 panels. The artists may create 4 individual artworks or combine panels to create 1, 2 or 3 artworks. The artists will use as inspiration, the documentary photographic work by Louisiana photographers John Slaughter, Brian Biamonte, Frank McMains and Bretagne photographer Myriam Jageat, in order to complete paintings or mixed-media pieces on un-stretched canvas not exceeding 48″ in any one direction. Multiple pieces can be hung together as one composition.
In addition, literary artists from the Bretagne region of France will produce one long or 4 short literary pieces in response to either photographers John Slaughter, Brian Baimonte, Frank McMains and French artist Myriam Jageat or newly created work by Degrees of Separation visual artists. The converse will occur with literary artists from Louisiana.
The visual work created will focus on sustainable practices which includes the four interconnected domains: ecology, economics, politics and culture with an emphasis on exchanges between NUNU and the Articulteurs.
A collection of work will exist in both France and the United States and will tour within the perspective continents.
The title of each work will correspond to GPS coordinates, referencing the location from which the artwork was inspired. The work will be labled with a QR code. Using a smartphone, viewers will enjoy an interactive experience that will bring them to the artist’s page on this website where you will be able to see on a map the location from where the piece was inspired. Also included in the interactive experience will be information about the artists and the artwork being viewed.
The group in its entirety will be included in the first exhibition in Marfa, Texas at the International Woman’s Foundation, Building 98. The exhibit will open on October 5, 2014 and run through December 13, 2014. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, October 5th from 5pm-8pm, the weekend leading into Chinati weekend.
